I was looking for a collar for my dog so she could have more freedom. She did ok with the "come" command but if she was distracted she blocked me out. Selective hearing maybe... Anyway, she really doesn't like things that vibrate so I wanted a collar that had vibrate and tone but no shock. However I couldn't find such a collar. So I decided to go with the Sportdog 1825 because it had all 3 features and you could program it so you didn't need to use the shock feature. This is the best thing I have bought for both me and my dog. She listens so well and I have NEVER had to shock her. Most of the time now I don't have to use it at all. If I hit the tone she comes looking for me, kind of turned it into a game at times. I hide press the tone button and she comes to find me. If the tone doesn't work then I press the vibrate button and that always works. She is a very friendly dog and wants to greet everyone or every dog we encounter but with this collar I can get her to stay at my side until I say "OK". Also, no more trying to chase the UPS or FED-EX trucks...that always scared me. Now when I see one coming I just tell her "No, stay." and just keep talking to her quietly. It's amazing and gives me so much relief that she can run and play with her friends without being on a leash. She loves her freedom and knows that this collar gives her that. Petmate Walkabout Retractable Leash, Small, Red Best Quality

I got frustrated with this retractable leash right away. Maybe 3/4 of the times I pushed the main trigger button to apply the brake, it would also engage the lock switch. The only way to avoid this is to push the trigger brake very lightly, so you have to be conscious of the trigger every time you use it so as not to push too firmly and have it switch the leash into lock-mode, which just isn't practical. I ended up tripping over the slack in the leash every time my dog slowed down a bit after the lock-switch inadvertently engaged for my entire walk. I returned the leash and won't try the brand again because this didn't seem like the type of problem that is just a rare fluke, but more like the type of problem that results from cheap/flawed design and materials.

On the plus side, the handle is large enough for me to put all 4 fingers around it (albeit snugly) on the small-dog sized model. That is something that bugs me about the Flexi brand leashes; there is no comfortable way to get your hand around them, even on the medium-dog models. This is an excellent collar. It is very bright. My dog has long black fur & I (& other people) can still see the light flashing through

I really like that it has different modes, I will try them all out in different weather conditions. So far I like the "fast flashing"

The construction of the collar is top notch. It has the plastic buckle type that is popular now, easy on & easy off. The battery
"box" is covered on both sides (by the collar itself) so 1) it is protected & 2) you don't even see it. I haven't needed to change
the batteries yet but it looks easy to do. It will require an eyeglass or other small screwdriver, which I like because there is no
way for it to come apart by accident. The light doesn't go all the way around, however I don't see how it possibly could
considering that it has to be connected to a battery (which takes up some space) & that it's impossible to stitch through
a light. I also think that there is a good length of the light & it is so bright that there is no way that someone could miss it.
This is really a lifesaving device, I can see my dog & know that other people can too.
On a rainy moonless night my neighbor was franticly calling her dog because she thought her dog knocked over a bicycler.
She couldn't even see the shape of my dog because it was pitch black & so is he, all she could see was the flashing light.
All in all, an EXCELLENT collar. The best purchase I have made for my "kid", insuring his safety.

Both my dogs fit the "girth measurement" but the loop where the leash attaches drags on the ground. My two dogs were able to walk out of the thing and kept getting their front legs tangled up. Also there is one dimension where the harness can't be adjusted so you might find, as I did, that the girth measurement is correct, but it still is too big for your dog. The description should have warned the owners of "short" dogs that this would not be a good choice.

If you want to try this out on your dog, buy it from a dealer who will refund ALL the purchase price without a 20% restocking fee. It's too risky otherwise.

I sort of felt like buying this was a cop-out, like admitting that I'm a bad dog owner and too lazy to thoroughly train my dog. However, after buying it, I've found that it's basically magic so I can't care about being a lazy owner too much. Anyway, it's seemingly completely safe (unlike head collars or normal collars which can sometimes cause back or neck injuries, or choke collars which, well... choke.)
My 130 lbs malamute mix was fairly well trained and didn't pull often until I moved in with some other dogs and we started going on group walks. This got him all excited and all his training went out the door. I bought this and pulling has stopped totally and completely INSTANTLY. He's like a perfectly well-trained dog now. I was shocked. I figured he might still pull KIND of or at least sometimes. Or maybe it would take a couple weeks and some actual effort and training, but no. I just put it on, attached a leash, and that was that. It might be different with other dogs but it worked like a charm with this one.

We're getting one for our husky that pulls even worse than this one did. She's also much younger and more high-strung, so we'll see if it works as well on her.

The only problems I've found is that the chest piece tends to be too broad for a lot of dogs who aren't really that stocky. It has a wide range of adjustability, but it will fit awkwardly on awkwardly shaped dogs. No sizes really fit my greyhound mix at all. I tried every training device out there on my Shepherd before I tried this. We tried the choke chain, the Halti, Gentle Leader, no pull harnesses... The dog has dog aggression issues and she would lunge- growling, barking, and snarling, at other dogs and sometimes people when we walked her. It was hard enough walking just her, but we have a second dog too. The other dog will also lunge if the first one does, and together, that's 160 pounds of dog lunging on the leash.

The big dog, in addition to being aggressive, is also sensitive. She has been known to yelp if you touch her ears or scream if you accidentally step on her foot. I thought this collar looked atrocious, but I knew I couldn't have my dog lunging out of control. It wasn't a safe situation, and the dog needs exercise. I tried the collar on myself before I put it on the dog. With the collar around my thigh I gave a hard jerk- much harder than I would ever correct my dog. It doesn't hurt. It squeezes and pinches all the way around, not abrading the skin at all, but I wouldn't call it a pleasant sensation. I had to remove several links from the collar to fit it right- it should sit at the top of the dog's neck, not at the bottom. The quick release makes it much easier to get the collar on and off than having to snap the links apart every time. The points of the prongs are rounded so they are not actually sharp. Some other brands do have sharp edges and metal burrs, which is why Herm Sprenger is the brand to get if you need a prong.

The first time the dog wore the collar she lunged in her usual fashion- just once. She can't muscle through the correction with this collar like she could with the Halti or the choke chain. She didn't yelp but she immediately stopped barking and growling. Wheras before she would "zone in" on whatever she was barking at and basically ignore us, with this collar, she is definately always aware that we are holding the leash, and it's possible to get her attention back even if there's a dog very close by. I can hold her right at my side with very little effort. In fact, with this collar, I can walk both dogs at the same time, although they outweigh me by 30 pounds. The only bad thing about this collar is that some people will give you very dirty looks when you use it. Some people think it's abusive, or dangerous, or unneccesary. My cat and I came to a resolve when she insisted on being an outdoor cat... a collar. I was using various basic collars until I noticed that she was losing fur around her neck. Other times I found crust (as if she scratched it or it rubbed her to rough).

I think when I bought mine, the photo must've been correct because I wasn't expecting a padded version.
I like this harness for the most part. It isn't a perfect fit, but I find nothing fits my spaniel very well anyway.
I DO NOT like the way this thing pulls my dog to one side/down when used with the standard (nowadays) shoulder harness belt in the backseat of my car, which is why I use an additional attachment that I bought to use with a different harness system. The attachment hooks to the metal piece on this unit and then to the child safety restraint hook in my back seat. It is probably not as safe as just strapping him in with the seatbelt, but more comfortable.
If you have lapbelts only, rare these days, then the major flaw is not a problem.
Overall - the best harness I've purchased for him - one piece construction makes me feel he is secure and it doesn't weigh him down like another I bought that had all these seatbelt buckles on it. But the way it fastens with the seatbelt is uncomfortable for my dog so I use an attachment that makes him slightly less safe. I have tried 3 different styles of head harnesses on my Cane Corso Pup.. hes 8months now and 90 lbs of pure muscle that loves to pull. I don't much care for choke chains since he just pulls, chokes and gags over and over.
As for the prev reviewer, most dogs need to be conditioned to new experiences like a head collar, or clipping toe nails..
My pup struggled like it was the end of the world the first few times we tried to put the harness on him (and tried to cut his nails). It's a matter of making them comfortable with the experience.
Now he sits at the front door and when I grab the head harness he jams his face into it enthusiastically.

Anyway, I have tried the walmart brand harness, don't like it compared to the other 2, it works better than just a collar though.
It fits like a gentle leader but the leash clips behind the head, so you don't get as much control over the nose.

The gentle leader By premiere worked very well and I had no complaints, however my pup got ahold of it and chewed it up.

The halti goes one step further than the gentle leader, it clips under the nose the same way, however the Halti has a floating ring that acts similar to a choker, but on the mouth rather than the neck.. so when the dog pulls, it forces his mouth closed.
He doesn't seem to like that very much.. but that's kind of the point of training..

I only gave it 4/5 stars because the floating ring for the choker, isn't a true floating ring.
It's hard to describe until you see it, but the choker only really works when pulled from one side, from the other side it doesn't close so it works the same as the gentle leader. Guess you are meant to train the dog to walk on your left hand side always. I bought our bungee leash just over a year ago for our then 6 month old golden retriever who liked to take ME on walks. It immediately made walking easier for both of us. We are still using the same leash for our now 80 lb dog. During the first 6 months of his life we went through countless leashes because he would chew right through them. He was never able to accomplish the same task with the bungee leash however.

I got this product for my very "soft" collie mix dog. I'm not hunting with him, but I do take him off-leash in the woods often. Lately, in his "teenage stage (he's 1.5 yrs. old), he's been not responding as well to my calls. He lags behind to dig, or runs off on a coyote scent.

He's extremely scared of any sort of corrective measures (such as spray bottle, loud noise, whatever). I didn't feel I needed a full out shock collar for him, even though I hear those do work even on soft dogs. I googled "vibration only collars," and this is what I came up with. It seemed to be the only one with multiple levels of vibe, waterproof, far-reaching, and sturdy. But, there were no reviews for it anywhere online that I could find, and it's expensive.

I found it here on amazon for about $70 less than anywhere else.
Gentle Trainer - GT1

It works so well. It really just feels like holding your cell phone against your neck when it's on vibrate. My dog is not scared of it, and it doesn't hurt. It can vibrate faster or slower, which is what makes it louder or softer, and it has 15 different levels on the dial of the remote.

It serves, as a hunter once told me about his very low-set e-collar, as a "tap on the shoulder" to my dog if he gets caught up in something good. "Hey, boss lady's over here. Pay attention." It's even broken his focus when he's on a coyote scent, which is a very powerful stimulant for him. Not sure I'd trust it to work every time, but for now, it's worked.

My dog new the "come here" command prior to my getting this collar, and now after buzzing him and calling him simultaneously, he comes when I "page" him only, which is great when I'm conversing with someone during the walk.

This collar would also be excellent for a deaf dog. You could train him with different levels or patterns of the vibration and use those as commands.

This has been great out in the field. My dog has worn it completely submerged in the water and it still works.

It comes with a recharger, and a single charge lasts 48 hours of regular use. The design of both the remote and the collar is attractive, even though the collar part is a bit heavy (doesn't seem to bother my 50 lb. dog). A light on the collar blinks red to show you that it is still working.

I cut my plastic collar too short and replaced the collar with a fabric / nylon one, and it looks better but works just as well. Make sure you don't cut off too much!

If you think maybe your dog may not react to just vibe, look at the GT-2. It has 15 different vibe and shock levels, which may be more helpful for a wide range of behaviors. The shock feature on the GT-2 is supposedly quite gentle as well. The company actually suggests trying all their collars on yourself before using them on your dog. Very humane! :0) Unleashed Technology has a great support website as well, complete with videos.

I recommend this collar very highly, especially for those soft dogs needing a little reminder, and for deaf dogs. I hope this review helps someone trying to make a decision. Great item!

The Bamboo collar has worked very nicely when I need to control my lab & keep her from lunging or jumping on an individual. I would change one thing about it though. It needs to have the ring for a leash more accessible & the loose flap should have another way to keep it from hanging down. My lab is a smaller girl so her neck was right at the edge between a medium collar & a large collar. We chose the large & tighten it to the smallest hole which leaves a length hanging down.
