My now almost 17 year old dog, which only weighs 33 pounds depises when I try to use this type of harness. If your dog has an elongated chest/abdomen, I see this as a product that could potentially harm the dog's chest even perhaps crack a rib in an older dog. As one other person remarked, when lifting-- the device slides forward toward the heavier (chest) area; it bunches at the front. If you make the clips too tight, the dog's ability to breath is inhibited. If too loose, the harness slides and bunches up under the axillae and neck.
I saw one promising device that uses 2 separate straps in front and back. This would seem to work, except, if you're trying to get it on and off quickly and easily, it's not an ideal option. I wrote to a woman who at first agreed to custom make a dog coat type device that covered both the chest & the lower groin area (if male, she made penis opening.) The coat snapped at the top of the back and essentially covered the entire abdominal and chest area. This would have been a perfect device (similiar to what one would see with a floatation device, but LONGER. Unfortunteately, even though price would not have been an issue, the woman did not have the time (or perhaps after I sent her every measurement I could make on my my dog, she thought it would be a lot of work).
I think what I will end up doing is finding an old heavy weight towel, cut 4 slits in it (5 if a male) and sew Velcro at the top of the opening, across the spine. This is a product that is needed and I do not understand why someone who's a decent seamstress or tailor couldn't mass produce something that has the necessary weight bearing ability and have a quick connect straping at the top...this one advertised, incidentally has the upper round handles, tucked or tied, in order for the dog NOT to trip while just simply walking when they're not in use for LIFTING the dog.
Anyone who's found a good alternative, I wish they'd put the website here.

I have 2 Siberian huskies and a black lab. All of whom have broke the "large" retractable leash from pulling so hard it broke the retractable part, and one of the huskies saw a racoon in the woods one time, wanted it so badly that on the large version he broke the whimpy line right in half a 60 lb dog broke a leash rated to 110 lbs...what is the problem with this.

I originally saw this leash in Drs. Foster and Smith. I saw the the line was the same thickness through out and not going down to a whimpy 1/4" round rope.

Being the price seemed to be high to me the first time around I only purchased one to try it out. Two days after using the Giant retractable I bought an additional one for my other husky.

I would highly recommend this product if you ever hesitate about the 110 lb. rated ones braking on you. The button is super easy and the dogs do learn the clicking sound it makes.

We did rescue one of our huskies who is super sensitive to weird clicking sounds and she quickly learned that sound was ok and isn't phased by it at all. I am not sure all dogs would adapt...most should.

The complaints that these break away too easily have not been true with our dogs, though I could see it being true with larger dogs.

The ability to still attach a lead to this collar by using both rings is great- we usually walk our dogs on a harness, but being able to use the collar for a short walk is really helpful. The rings seem just a bit far apart or a bit too small for how far apart they are- one of our smaller leads has a small clasp that doesn't reach between them easily.

The only real downside is that sometimes the brass rings will weigh it down so they slide around to the front but that probably wouldn't happen if we had heavier id tags than we do, and it really isn't a big deal- there's no harm in having the break away point in front and it can easily be turned back around.

I bought this harness in pink and in sky blue for my miniature pinscher. For some reason these have slight sizing variations, although both were ordered in x-small. The sky blue one is slightly tight around the neck, and the strap loop is smaller than on the pink one, so the buckle cannot slide through and as a result the harness sits kind of crookedly on my dog. That bothers me.

In any case, I am very happy with this line of harnesses. I know for sure there is no way my dog can wiggle out of it, as agitated as she tends to be. The mesh seems to be pretty comfortable. She never complains about having it on, and sleeps with it. I don't take it off unless it is to wash it or to change colors or just wear a collar. It is well sewn and constructed - doesn't feel cheap at all.

In terms of fit, the x-small pink one fits her perfectly. She is a 3.5 month old miniature pinscher, about 10 inches high and 11 inches long.. about 9ish inches around the neck. This fits her snugly and comfortably. Hope that helps any min-pin owners get an idea of size.
